We regard sustainability as having an economic, social and ecological dimension, and are aware that ecological aspects have gained particular prominence due to the visible effects of climate change.
Sustainability – defined chiefly as making a contribution to sustained climate protection – is already a factor across our business and is affecting the way we do things. We intend to build on our existing sustainability activities going forward.
Examples of our sustainable approach
- Reducing the use of packaging material
- Increasing the proportion of recycled material in packaging used in our production process
- Boosting regional sourcing and thus reducing the need for transport
- Expanding the range of unpackaged foods
- Marketing products that involve biological seed treatments
- Working with local food banks in Germany (the so-called Tafeln)
- Installing electric charging points at our sites and incorporating electric cars into our vehicle fleet
- Installing a photovoltaic system on the roof of the planned fresh produce and logistics facility in Senden-Bösensell
For us, sustainability is not a passing trend
Sustainability will remain with us and grow in importance for our business. We are committed to continually developing our understanding of sustainability and our activities in this area.
In order to address sustainability even more effectively in future, from 2021 onwards there will be regular meetings across all business segments to discuss the sustainable approach adopted by the various business units and the Group as a whole. The aim is to engage more systematically and widely with the opportunities and activities associated with acting sustainably within our Group. This will enable us to make an even greater contribution to active climate protection and to social harmony.
We will publicise future activities and projects on this page.
